The purpose of TD Laboratory is to provide technical support for "Tailings Dam" attached to mines.
It was opened in Japan in January 2023 as a privately run laboratory by Seishi Yamada.
I have approximately 40 years of experience in designing, permitting, constructing, managing, and closing tailings dams in Japan and overseas. (As an employee of JX Nippon Mining & Metals Co. Ltd.)
I have been involved in about 60 tailings dams in Japan and overseas.

I believe that in order to maintain a tailings dam safely and securely, it is most important that design, construction, and operation are integrated.
Designing without an understanding of construction and operation, or construction and operation without an understanding of design philosophy, can pose major risks.

Furthermore, knowing the impact that tailings would have on the area if the embankment breach would be valuable knowledge.

In the Great East Japan Earthquake caused by the 2011 Tohoku-Pacific Coast Earthquake, the Ohya Mine's tailings dam was breached.
I entered the Ohya mine two days after the earthquake and took measures to prevent secondary disasters caused by aftershocks. Since then, I have been conducting cause investigation, liaising with local governments and residents, restoration planning, and construction work management for two years.
The breached tailings dam met the standards set by the government, and the cause was the magnitude of the earthquake, which exceeded expectations. Since then, Japanese laws have been revised.

I have published a paper on this breach. (as co-author)

Breach of a tailings dam in the 2011 earthquake in Japan

I am providing technical support for tailings dams through this laboratory.
Specific duties include damage recovery, diagnosis, countermeasures, design, permits, construction management, maintenance, and wastewater treatment for tailings dams.
However, as I operate as a sole proprietorship, I cannot conduct soil investigations, laboratory tests, or analyzes including stability.
As part of my work, I will examine the content of the consultation, and then propose solutions or create materials.
Costs are based on Japanese cost estimation standards, but details will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Please contact me from the address below.

I will comply with the confidentiality obligation regarding the contents.

Currently, I am serving as a member of the Geotechnical Society of Japan TC221 (Tailings and Mine Waste) until March 2026.

Thank you.
